Maye Davenport, 69, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1971 as the result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
A resident of Jones county for over 50 years, she was born May 23, 1902 at Hyters Gap, Va., the daughter of William G. and Laura Sisk Davenport. She moved to Jones county with her parents at the age of 14 and graduated from Olin high school in 1920.
She was employed for several years by Clifford Niles in the Niles theater; she later operated the Nook cafe for some time. Recently she was employed as a companion to elderly persons in Anamosa. She was active in the Wapsiketa Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and was a member of Mt. Moriah Chapter OES.
Survivors are five sisters, Mrs. Harold (Ethel) Hartman, Anamosa; Mrs. A. C. (Grace) Carter, Guadalajara, Mexico; Mrs. J. C. (Merle) Anderson, Chicago; Mrs. Robert (Jane) Liddy, Davenport; Mrs. Neal (Nancy) Robertson, Martelle; two brothers, William G. Davenport, Oakland, Calif., and Buster Davenport, St. Louis, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were held at Goettsch Funeral home Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Boyd Bonebrake officiating. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steven Ovel, James Hartman, Jeffrey Liddy, Lance Davenport, Mark Robertson and Matthew Roberston.
