OLIN - Gerald Alvin Wood, 76, died at St. Luke's hospital Cedar Rapids, Wednesday, Sept. 8, following an illness of several weeks.
Memorial services were held at Hayden's Funeral home, Olin, Saturday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Lloyd Dutro officiating. Mrs. Ronald Rogers was organist. Interment was in the Olin cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lyle Vernon, Lawrence Dean, Howard Cruise, Vernie Kreger, Raymond James and Larry Gordon.
Gerald Wood was born Mar. 10, 1895 in Hale township, Jones county, son of Ambrose G. and Lucy DeLarm Wood. He grew up in the Hale community and attended the rural schools in that area. While living in Hale, they attended the Methodist church there.
He was united in marriage to Alma Mott, Aug. 23, 1920, at Tipton. Mr. and Mrs. Wood farmed in Jones and Cedar counties for many years, finally moving to Olin to make their home. For several years after moving to Olin he worked in a furniture store.
Survivors include a son, Clifford, Seattle, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. Ada Thompson, Ypsilanti, Mich.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Crystal Blythe, Martelle; and a brother, Hobart, living in the east.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Vera and Olga; a brother, Archie, and his wife, Alma, who died May 5, 1968.
