August Thomsen, 84, died July 9 at the Anamosa Community Hospital. Services were held at 2 p.m. July 12 at the Wyoming Presbyterian church, with Rev. James Mattson presiding. Burial was in Wyoming cemetery.

Pallbearers were Walter Hartman, Donald Brunscheen, James Curtin, Ralph Orth, William Walters and Curt McKinstry.

He was born Jan. 24, 1894 at Wyoming, the son of John and Marie Jensen Thomsen. He graduated from Wyoming High School in 1911. During World War I, he served in the U.S. Army.

On Sept. 6, 1922, Thomsen married Nora Storm at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming. The couple farmed west of Wyoming for over 50 years. They moved to town in 1973.

Thomsen was a charter member of Wyoming American Legion and World War I Barracks #1018 and member and past elder of Wyoming Presbyterian Church. He also served 12 years on the Wyoming school board and Wyoming cemetery board.

He is survived by his wife Nora; two daughters, Dr. June Jetter, Kansas City, Mo., and Joanne Rusk of Plano, Texas; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, Meinhardt Thomsen, Wyoming; and one sister, Mrs. Clara Benbou, Corwallis, Ore.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
