30 December 1954 - The Anamosa Eureka

Funeral service for Claire Dee Gombert, 24, Anamosa, who was killed in an auto-truck crash Sunday, Dec. 25, was held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Goettsch funeral home, Anamosa.

Rev. John W. Hosmer officiated and burial was in South Mineral cemetery. Serving as casketbearers were Jack McLaughlin, Raymond Moran, Francis Knepper, Alvin Achenbach, Lester Tallman and Alvin Orr.

Gombert was killed when the car he was driving collided with a star route mail truck on highway 151 1 1/2 miles north of Monticello.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Gombert, Anamosa, he was born at Emeline Oct. 24, 1930. He attended the Onslow and Morley schools, graduating from Morley high school in 1948. He was discharged from the army in January after serving two years with much of the time spent in Germany.

Claire was employed on the Clarence Knepper farm north of Cascade.

Surviving, besides his parents, are a sister, Mrs. Walter Ehlts, Monticello; three brothers, Pierre, Dubuque; Owen, Anamosa, and John, at home; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Arch Edwards, Anamosa, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Antone Gombert, Lost Nation.
