OLIN - Marlene Babcook, 18, Olin, died Sunday of injuries received in a car-truck crash at the intersection of highway 261 and 30 a mile south of Mt. Vernon Sunday morning.

Miss Babcook died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday at University hospitals, Iowa City. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Babcook.

She was riding in a car driven by Duane Sorenson, 18, also of Olin. Sorenson's car collided with a stock truck driven by William Astor, 38, Greene.

Both Miss Babcook and Sorenson were taken to Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids, from where she was transferred to Iowa City. He suffered back injuries and cuts on the face and arm.

They were enroute to a Future Farmers of America picnic at MacBride state park near Solon at the time of the accident.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 30, at 2 p.m. at the Olin Methodist church with Rev. G. D. Gaide. Interment will be at the Antioch cemetery.

Campbell funeral home will be in charge.

Miss Babcook was born at Olin Dec. 10, 1936 and spent all her life in the community. She attended the Olin school where she was active in extra-curricular work including girls basketball.

She was a member of the 1954 Olin graduating class. She was also active in girls 4-H work and was county vice-president during the 1953-54 club year.

Besides her parents she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Richard Grafft, Olin; and Brenda, at home; a brother, Lynn, at home; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mabel Babcook, Cedar Rapids; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Peterson, Newport.
