Raymond J. Koch, 77 of Monticello, formerly of Quasqueton, Iowa, died Monday, August 1st, 2022, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa following a sudden illness. A private family inurnment will be held at Noon on Saturday, August 13th, 2022, at Quasqueton Cemetery, 711 Quasqueton Diagonal Boulevard. Immediately following there will a celebration of Ray’s life at Wolfey’s Wapsi Outback, 101 Water St., Quasqueton, Iowa.

Ray was born on October 29, 1944, to Louis and Bernadette (Magsamen) Koch in Petersburg, Nebraska. In 1946, the family moved to Iowa where they settled in Lamont, where Ray attended school. He worked for Iowa Manufacturing (Terex) as a welder for 42 years before retiring in 2010. Ray married Marti Fletcher on July 13, 1985. They lived in Northeast Iowa, until settling in Quasqueton. Ray and Marti were married for 27 years until Marti’s passing in 2013.

Ray enjoyed fishing on the Wapsi, golfing, and tinkering around his garage. Above all, Ray’s greatest enjoyment was time spent with his grandchildren and family.

Ray is survived by his four children, Stuart (Gina) Koch and Rae Ann (Scott) Manternach, both of Monticello, IA; Cherrie Zempel of Waterloo, IA; and Jamie (Carrie) Koch of Independence, IA; six grandchildren: Kyle, Jackson, Trevor, Madison, Hannah and McKenna; eight siblings, Patricia Clark, Louie (Diane) Koch, Cyril (Georgia) Koch, Fritz Koch, Marge (Red) Axtell, Larry (Phyllis) Koch, Imelda (Alan) Streitmatter and Charlie (Lori) Koch; sisters-in-law, Marla Wessner and Toodie (Bill) Hunt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Bernadette Koch; sister, Jean Schmitz; brothers-in-law, Vince Schmitz and Bob Clark; sister-in-law, JoAnn Koch; and a sister, Mary Ann Heren.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Pennington Square and Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the care they provided to Ray.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
