November 17, 1952 - The Anamosa Journal

Mrs. John Bailey, 84, Anamosa, died at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, at 12:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, of heart disease. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. in Goettsch funeral home with Rev. C. Crockett officiating.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by three step-children, Mrs. John Goodman, Anamosa; Supervisor William Bailey, Morley; and Mrs. E. L. Morgan, Cedar Rapids; and one grandson, Don Goodman, Anamosa.

Funeral service for Mrs. John Bailey, 84, who died at Mercy hospital, Anamosa Monday, Nov. 17, was held Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. in Goettsch funeral home with Rev. Barney C. Crockett officiating. Burial was in Amber cemetery.

Casket bearers were Howard Porter, M. H. Weiss, W. O. Blake, Don S. Ruhl, Eugene Gordon and Clifford Crow.

Mrs. Annie K. Bailey was born at Allentown, Pa., June 17, 1868, the daughter of Ephraim and Sally Ann Steckel. As a child she came with her parents to Jones county and lived on a farm near Amber, then called Blue Cut.

She was married to John Bailey June 6, 1893. For their honeymoon, they attended the world's fair at Chicago. She and her husband lived at Amber, until 1907, when they moved to Anamosa.

In 1927 she joined the Anamosa Congregational church and was active in the women's work as long as she was able.

She and her husband had two children, both of whom died in early childhood. Her husband died Nov. 2, 1937, at the age of 79. Five brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sisters, Miss Abbie Steckel and Mrs. William Strawman, Anamosa, four nephews and one niece.
