Maurice (Mott) Crowley 1881-1951

Funeral service was held Saturday morning, Sept. 8, for Maurice J. (Mott) Crowley, 70, who died Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Mercy hospital after a long illness. Requiem high mass was celebrated by his son, Rev. Clarence J. Crowley, with Rev. J. J. Hennessey, Castle Grove, as deacon, Rev. Daniel Cooper, Bellwood, Nebr., as sub-deacon and Rev. Vincent Simon, Anamosa, as master of ceremonies.

Sermon was delivered by Rev. I. J. Patnode, Marion. Other priests assisting in the sanctuary were Rev. Msgr. M. C. Grogan, Hastings, Nebr., Rev. J. A. McMahon, Anamosa, Rev. Charles Keenan, Hastings, Nebr., Rev. Gil Lattner, Rockford, Rev. William Holub, Dubuque, and Rev. Thomas Knox, Stone City.

Casket bearers were Dr. Harry Dolan, Dr. Edward Rogers, Fred Martin, Paul Jolliff, all of Anamosa; John J. Locher, Monticello and John Supple, Ryan.

Mr. Crowley, son of James Crowley and Elizabeth Hogan, was born at Castle Grove Feb. 18, 1881. He was one of eleven children. He was baptized in the Roman Catholic church in his infancy and remained an exemplary Catholic throughout his entire life.

He was united in marriage to Mayme McCrea Feb. 8, 1910, in the Catholic church at Castle Grove. They had six children.

Those surviving are his children, Rev. Clarence J. Crowley, Hebron, Nebr., Mrs. Thomas Supple, Coggon, Don, Wyoming; Bernard, Cascade, and Mrs. Russell Cornwell and Ray Crowley, Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Mrs. Ette O'Rourke, Rockford, and Mrs. Nell Hennessey, Waterloo.
