MONTICELLO - Mrs. Eliza Oltmanns Tholen died Thursday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis Kanake, Bellevue, with whom she has made her home for the last six months.
Funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, at St. Matthew's Lutheran church, Rev. H. L. Adix officiating.
Casket bearers were Herman Ortgies, William Albers, Albert Oltmanns, Ludwig Oltmanns, and Albert L. Kanake. Burial was in Prairie Hill cemetery near Monticello. Goettsch Funeral home, Monticello, handled arrangements.
Almust Eliza Weers, born on July 12, 1864 in Langewerth, Germany, was the daughter of John and Ameilia Daniels Weers. She came to this country and was married to John Oltmanns on July 28, 1888, at Council Bluffs. In 1893, the family moved to Jones county and farmed in Castle Grove and Cass townships.
Later they retired and moved to Anamosa in 1919. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1933. She was later married to Gerd Tholen, who died Feb. 5, 1945.
She is survived by six children, Mrs. Louis Kanake, Bellevue; Mrs. William Poppe, Monticello; William Oltmanns, Martelle; John Oltmanns, Mrs. John Alberts and Albert Oltmanns, all of Anamosa. She is also survived by 34 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren, and one brother, Albert Weers, Anamosa, and three sisters, Mrs. Wilke Husmann, Monticello, Mrs. Tom Schoon and Mrs. Henry Harms, both of Amber.
