9 February 1950 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Matthew E. Boots, 74, was conducted by Rev. Edgar E. Walker, jr. at Methodist church Monday afternoon. Mr. Boots died at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, Feb. 3.

Goettsch Funeral home handled arrangements. Interment was in Cedar Memorial Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Casket bearers were Grover Stroud, Robert Hartman, A. Hazel Smith, Victor Yount, Nick Nassif and Roy Weighels.

Mr. Boots was born Sept. 1, 1875, at Elkader. His father, the late Thomas L. Boots, was a Methodist minister in Elkader. On Aug. 28, 1902, he was married to Laura Learn at West Union.

Six children were born: Mrs. Helen Marsh, Monticello; Mrs. Fay West, Burlington; Mrs. Henry Hunwardsen, Cedar Rapids; Matthew Boots, jr., Lester Boots and Mrs. Lee First, all of Anamosa.

Twenty-six grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive along with the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Zoad Smith, Leon; Mrs. Dick White, Thorpe; Mrs. Clara Butts, Maynard; Mrs. Art Engstrom, Mrs. Fred White, Lewis, Warnie and Lester Boots, all of Oelwein.

Mr. Boots was employed for many years as buttermaker in Monticello and Anamosa. He was a member of Methodist church.
