MONTICELLO - Funeral services for Gerd Rickels, 61, were held Saturday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran church, with interment in St. John's cemetery. The Rev. C. C. Gutekunst conducted the services.

Mr. Rickels died June 29 at the University hospital, Iowa City, where he had been hospitalized for the past seven weeks.

He was born near Scotch Grove May 25, 1906, the son of J. Carl and Johanna Hanken Rickels, and received his education in Jones county schools. On Jan. 14, 1928, he married Ruth Robinson, and the couple farmed in the Monticello area before moving to Monticello 13 years ago.

For the past eight years he had been employed as a radio operator for the City of Monticello. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran church.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Richard and LaRoy of Monticello, Mrs. Melvin (LaQuita) Good of Camanche, and Mrs. Sandra O'Brien of Chicago, Ill; one brother, Willis of Monticello; five sisters, Mrs. Cora Leesekamp of Dallas, Tex., Mrs. Fred Minney, Mrs. Michael Staley of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. John Paulsen of Onslow and Mrs. Clarence Edwards of Clinton; and 15 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were William Minney, Robert Rickels, Gerald Edwards, Dennis Steger, Donald Kotz and George Bader.
