MONTICELLO - Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Jake Gesie, 75, life-long resident of the Monticello community, at Goettsch Funeral home. The Rev. John Benjamin Wild conducted the services. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery with the Monticello drill team conducting the military honors.

Mr. Gesie died suddenly at his home at 209 South Main Sunday afternoon, Jan. 15, from an apparent heart attack.

He was born Oct. 15, 1891, at Monticello, the son of Jacob and Mary Reckler Gesie. He attended the Monticello schools, and during World War I served in the Army. For a number of years until his retirement he was a painter.

On April 3, 1924, he married Mary Rieken Harms. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church and the American Legion Post of Monticello.

Survivors include his wife; two step-daughters, Mrs. Helen Hogan of Monticello and Mrs. James (Edna) Spencer of Davenport; one brother, John, of Monticello, and three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Lyon of Robbins, Miss Nellie Gesie and Mrs. Mil First, both of Monticello.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one son.

Pallbearers were Raymond Coyle, Samuel Holmes, Elmer Holmes, Arthur Gesie, Eugene Gesie, Dewey Gesie, John M. Lyon and Francis Lyon.
