Raymond "Fay" Clark 1892-1951

Raymond L. "Fay" Clark, 59, senior member of the LeRoy Clark Sons well drilling contractors, passed away at his home Thursday at 6 p.m. after suffering a severe heart attack.

Mr. Clark was born in Monticello, Jan. 18, 1892, the son of LeRoy and Elizabeth Kiburz Clark. He attended the local schools, graduating from the Monticello high school with the class of 1911, and from Northwestern College of Law in 1915. He practiced law in Chicago until entering military service on Nov. 14, 1917.

He served with Company "A", 108th Engineers, 33rd Division, until being honorably discharged June 8, 1919. He was a member of the 33rd Division War Veterans' Association and Company "A" Last Man's Club.

On June 28, 1924 he was married to Honor L. Mulhall in the Rectory of Our Lady of Victory Church, and was received into the Catholic faith June 15, 1925 at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. Mr. Clark was a member of Sacred Heart Church and The Holy Name Society.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, three brothers, LeRoy Clark Jr., Birt and Alvin, and one sister, Pearl. He is survived by his widow, one son, Raymond L. Jr., of the Accident Investigating Unit, Chicago Police Department, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, at home; two brothers, Lynn and Sam Patterson Clark, and a granddaughter, Margaret Mary Clark of Chicago.

He has been a continuous member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars since 1919, and since transferring to the local post has served in many offices. He was Judge Advocate at the time of his death, and enjoyed counselling the younger veterans as they returned from service. He had a multitude of friends among this group throughout Iowa.

Funeral services were held from the Devaney funeral home on Monday, Dec. 3, to Sacred Heart church with Rev. Eugene P. Lorenz as celebrant of the Requiem Mass. Tom McAleer, Billy Joe Ament, Joe McAleer and John Barron were Mass servers. Burial was in Sacred Heart cemetery with full military honors by the Monticello Post No. 1683.

The military service was in charge of Commander Ervin Plueger, and the following escorts: Clarence Rhatigan, Eugene Barnts, Fred W. Kreeb and Michael Clement; color bearers, Fay Hauessler, George Richardson; color guards Michael Brady, Bud Reynolds; officer of the day, George Barnts; firing squard, Herman Behrends, Sam Reyner, LaVern Behrends, Carl Siebels, Albert J. McNeill, Jr., James Balsiger, and Clarence Kuriger; bugler, Ben Ament.

Pallbearers were veterans of World War I service as follows: Joseph F. Bader, Arnold Jacobs, William H. Jarrett, Harry N. Lyon, George A. Rickels, and George E. Rickels.
