CENTER JCT. - Funeral services for Gerhard (George) Wessels, 97, were held Wednesday afternoon at St. Paul Lutheran church in Anamosa. Burial was held in Riverside cemetery, Anamosa.

Mr. Wessels died Monday morning, May 23, at Community hospital in Anamosa. He was born March 18, 1869 at Oldenberg, Germany, the son of Gerhard and Anna Johnson Wessels.

He was married Oct. 18, 1900 to Antke Reinders at Springfield, Ill. She preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 1959. He farmed in Illinois and then in Nebraska for six years before coming to Jones county in 1910. He farmed until 1928. He worked at the men's reformatory in Anamosa and operated a filling station at Center Jct. until 1957.

He is survived by three sons, Reinder of Wyoming, George A. of Anamosa and William of Center Jct.; five daughters, Mrs. Dick (Helen) Gieber of Albuquerque, N.M., Mrs. Clarence (Marie) Yardly and Mrs. Thomas (Grace) Gilchrist of Topeka, Kan., Mrs. Harry (Anna) Scheele of Marion and Mrs. William (Edna) Schmidt of Hammond, Ind.; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Reinder, George and William Wessels and William Schmidt, Harry Scheele and Tom Gilchrist.
