MONTICELLO - Miss Bertha Catherine Harken, 79, died Jan. 6 at her home in Castle Grove township from a cardiac failure. Funeral services were held Saturday from Goettsch Funeral home with David Guthrie of Hopkinton officiating. Burial was made at Prairie Hill cemetery near Monticello.

Born June 12, 1886 at Monticello, she was the daughter of Garret and Elizabeth Krueger Harken. She graduated from Monticello high school in 1904; was a member of Peniel Presbyterian church, a former member of the Monticello Garden club and the Idle Not club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Fred and a sister Elizabeth.

Pallbearers included Clarence Eberhart, Paul Slack, Delmar King, Arlo Ireland, Fred Kromminga and James McLaughlin.
