TEMPLE HILL - Funeral services were held April 9 for Basil Gavin, 68, at St. Peters church, Temple Hill. The Rev. Robert J. Saunders offered the Mass of Requiem. Mr. Gavin died April 6 at Cedar Rapids, a victim of drowning.

Basil Gavin was born June 11, 1896 at Temple Hill, the son of Joseph and Frances O'Brien Gavin.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; four sons, Allan and Maurice of Cascade, Richard of Cedar Rapids, Patrick of Davenport; three daughters, Mrs. John (Jeanette) Stanton of Dubuque, Mrs. William (JoAnn) Recker of Monticello, Mrs. John (Maureen) Hayes of Covina, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Theresa Dunn, Davenport; one brother, Leo, Cascade, and eight grandchildren.
