16 April 1964 - The Anamosa Eureka

Joseph D. Gorius, 76, Anamosa, died Monday, April 13, at his home.

Funeral services wee held Thursday, April 16, at 10 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic church, Anamosa. Rev. J. A. McMahon conducted the service. Burial was in Holy Cross cemetery. McNamara Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers included John J. Miller, Lou Yanda, Albert Ament, Glen McLaughlin, William Fay and Joseph Kula.

He was born April 26, 1887, son of John Gorius and Mary Rubner Gorius, Sherrill Mound, Iowa. He was married to Rose Jasper on April 27, 1910, at St. Paul's church, Worthington.

Couple made their home in Worthington until 1930 when they moved to a farm in the Anamosa vicinity. They moved to Anamosa in 1945.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Rosalia, Mrs. Merle Paul, Napa, Calif.; C. J. Gorius, Potsdam, N.Y.; Harry Gorius, Joseph Gorius and Dorothy, Mrs. Ray Huerter, all of Anamosa; Walter Gorius, North Hollywood, Calif.; and Edwin Gorius, Marion; and 25 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Wilfred, who was killed in Italy in 1944 while serving in the military service.
