Earl H. "Bud" Dirks, 25, Anamosa, faces a manslaughter charge following the death of George Leaper, 60, at an Iowa City hospital last Sunday.

Leaper was taken to the hospital Saturday night, June 14, after an altercation in which Dirks was involved at Leaper's home in Anamosa.

Hearing Tuesday before Justice of the Peace George C. Lawrence failed to produce the facts concerning the case which was turned over to the grand jury. Dirks was released on $2,000 bond.

Funeral service for Leaper was held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Smykil Home for Funerals. Rev. C. L. Windsor officiated and interment was made in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dan Warder, George Zeuch, Carrel Blood, James Porter, Frank Cooper, L. Taylor and James Lloyd.

George W., son of Frank and Louisa Leaper, was born in the Forest community south of Anamosa June 24, 1886. He was married to Miss Katie Remington on Oct. 8, 1904.

Four sons, Arthur George, Philadelphia, Pa.; Herbert Leroy, Eldora; Howard W., who died in infancy, and Alfred Elton, Wyoming. Others who survive are his mother, Mrs. Louisa Leaper; a sister, Mrs. Pard Miller, Anamosa; a twin sister, Mrs. Charles Dunlap, Nashville, Tenn., and two brothers, Robert I. Leaper, Cedar Rapids, and Happy P. Leaper, Long Beach, Calif.
