John Dirks, 71, died early Sunday morning, Oct. 4, at his home at 600 E. Cedar, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. LaVerne Beener will conduct the service. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Anamosa.

Pallbearers include Maynard Bartels, George Dirks, Kenneth Dirks, James Dirks, Allen Lee Dirks and Jack Austin.

Mrs. Maynard Bartels is soloist. Mrs. M. W. Frederick is organist.

He was born Dec. 1, 1892, son of Henry and Rena Schoon Dirks, Jones county. He was married Nov. 22, 1917, to Irene Ireland at Anamosa. Couple made their home on a farm in Jones county until 1950 when they moved to Anamosa. After moving to Anamosa he worked at the hospital until he retired in 1955.

Survivors include his wife, Irene; one daughter, Alice, Mrs. Ed Redmond, Anamosa; three sons, Lawrence, Anamosa, Earl, Upland, Calif., and Virgil, Anamosa.

Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Anna Huebner, Manchester, and Mrs. Mary Bartels, Hopkinton; four brothers, Chris Dirks, George Dirks and Alfred Dirks, all of Anamosa; and Diedrich Dirks, Olin, and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one grandson.
