7 March 1946 - The Anamosa Journal

Paul Kruger, 70, was instantly killed about seven o'clock Saturday evening when struck by a truck on highway 151 about one and a half miles southwest of Monticello. Kruger and a companion, Lee Lynch, both of whom live at the Jones country home, were walking together when the accident occurred.

Gilbert Chapman, Anamosa, driver of the truck, told Deputy Sheriff Roy Cooley, who investigated the tragedy, that he did not see Kruger in time to avoid him. Chapman said he was traveling about 30 miles per hour.

Kruger and Lynch has spent Saturday in Monticello, according to Lynch, and were headed for Langworthy where Kruger told his companion he had a team and wagon which they panned to get and "take a trip south."

Body was taken to Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello. Deceased had no immediate relatives in this area, Cooley said. He was originally from Jackson county, and spent most of his life as a horse trainer and dealer in Jones county. Chapman was exonerated of all blame.
