Funeral service for Asahel Brunson Nichols, 77, who died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gilbert Cooper, was held this Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Smykil Home for Funerals.

Rev. Edgar E. Walker jr., pastor of the Anamosa Methodist church, officiated. Interment will be at Independence, Mo.

Mr. Nichols, son of Martin and Rowena Nichols, was born July 25, 1870, at Center Junction. He was married in 1892 at Lamoni to Ora Avis Keen. Couple lived in Center Junction until 1898 when they moved to Webb City, Mo. He was a member of the Methodist church, Center Junction.

Mrs. Nichols died at Kansas City in 1929 and several years later Mr. Nichols returned to Center Junction. He was married Dec. 26, 1933, to Mrs. Juliann E. Bales, who died July 14, 1947.

For the last several years Mr. Nichols made his home in Grundy Center. He was taken ill June 9 while visiting in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Cooper.

He is survived by five children, Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Ralph Poole, Anamosa; Roy Nichols, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Clyde Sullivan, Kansas City, Mo., and Harry Nichols, Montrose, Calif.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
