Funeral service for Mrs. Nicholas Nellis, 89, former Anamosa resident, was held Monday at 3 p.m. in Smykil Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Nellis, aunt of Mrs. Jessie Darrow, Anamosa, died last Friday at her home in Chicago after an illness of eight weeks. Service was conducted by Rev. Ralph Colton, of the Sinclair Memorial church, Cedar Rapids, nephew of Mrs. Darrow.

Casket bearers were Lou Joslin, Leonard Joslin, Donald Joslin, Joseph Joslin, Fairview. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Nellis, the former Belle Secrist, was born at Fairview Aug. 14, 1857. She lived in that community until the death of her husband, Henry Griffin, who for ten years served as a guard at Iowa state reformatory. She moved to Chicago and later married Nicholas Nellis who also died.

She is survived by daughter, Mrs. Bessie Simpson, Chicago; and a son, Harry Griffin, Tampa, Fla., two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Her daughter and a niece, Mrs. Lettie Bowles, Chicago, attended the funeral.
