Funeral services for George R. Newman, 79, who died at his home near Martelle Oct. 12, was held at the Methodist church in Martelle Oct. 16. Rev. Trevor Baskerville was the officiating minister and burial was made at Norwich cemetery.

George R. Newman, son of Emanuel and Elizabeth (Spade) Newman was born Feb. 12, 1866. He spent his entire life on the farm where he was born.

Dec. 7, 1892 he was married to Estella Chapin. To this union was born four daughters, Lora M. Armstrong; Esther V. Kohl and Ruth C. Armstrong, all of Martelle; and Mary E. E. Gordon, Conrad, Mont.; two sons, Clancy V., at home, and Hubert L., Springville.

Surviving besides his wife and children are 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one brother, Otis M. Newman, Center Point.

Mr. Newman was a member of the Martelle Methodist church.
