Ron is survived by his wife Linda; daughters Dawn and Roger Bouzek of Cedar Rapids and Stephanie and Bryan Fickel of Nampa, ID; grandchildren Dr. Drake and Allison Bouzek of Avon, IN, Jordan Bouzek of Des Moines, Blaze Bouzek of Cedar Rapids, Jack and Ellery Fickel of Nampa, ID; great-grandchildren Isabel and Raelyn Bouzek of Avon, IN; sister Evelyn Buol of Atalissa; step-sisters Trudy and Joel Wilson of Miles and Donna Moriarty of Cedar Rapids and step-brother Marty and Sue Miller of Moline, IL; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Violet Rogers; step-mother Dorothy Miller Rogers; daughter Debra Rogers; brother Robert Rogers and brother-in-law Jim Buol on December 3, 2020.
Ron was born September 15, 1944, the son of Floyd and Violet (Weeks) Rogers in St. Francis, Kansas. When Ron was in 5th grade the family moved to the Monticello area. Ron graduated from Monticello High School in 1962 and in 1963 enlisted in the Air Force, serving as a jet aircraft mechanic in Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict. He married the love of his life, Linda Ballou, in Olin, IA on June 14, 1964. Together they had three daughters whom he adored. After settling in Cedar Rapids Ron began working at Fisher Group where he was a pressman for nearly 30 years.
Ron loved to fish and camp. Following many years of family camping in Iowa, they enjoyed numerous trips with Stephanie and family in the mountains of Idaho preceded and followed by many days of “free camping” on the driveway of the Fickels’. He also looked forward to the annual Minnesota trips with Linda’s siblings and extended families. Attending the Bouzek kids’ sporting and music events thru the years with Dawn and her family was a huge joy for him. Following many years of deteriorating hearing, Ron received a cochlear implant in 1995. One fond memory is of Grandson Drake’s 5th birthday gift request for Papa to be able to hear him. Drake got his wish, as Ron’s implant was activated shortly before that 5th birthday. Ron also enjoyed the many friendships made during their winter stays in Phoenix with cousins Regina McGill and Darlene Begger. He had a great sense of humor, a sheepish grin, a twinkle in his eye and will be forever missed.
Memorials may be directed to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church or Discovery Living.
