9 November 1944 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for James F. Hogan, who died at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, Monday afternoon, following a few days illness, was held at the Immaculate Conception church, Castle Grove, this Thursday morning.

High Mass of Requiem was celebrated by the Rev. Father J. J. Hennessey, pastor, with the Rev. William Holub, Placid, as deacon, and the Rev. Father Holmberg, Chaplain of Mercy hospital, as sub-deacon. Mass was sung by the choir of Immaculate Conception church.

Pallbearers were Frank Marek, Joseph A. Holub, Louis Leonard, Louis O'Rourke, Edward Brady and Joseph Delay, all of Castle Grove. Interment was made in the church cemetery.

Hogan, life-long resident of Castle Grove, is survived by his wife, the former Martha Lamey, Anamosa; one son, James, who has assisted his father on the farm; and a daughter, Irene, Junior student at the Mercy School of Nursing, Dubuque; four brothers, Attorney Edward, Cascade; Charles, Thomas and John, Anamosa; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Smith, Betty and Mae Hogan, Anamosa.

Among those from out-of-town who attended the service were Sister Mary Immaculate, R.S.M., Mercy college, Detroit; Sister Mary Eileen, R.S.M., Mount Carmel Mercy hospital, Detroit; Mrs. Margaret Heffernan and Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Lamey and family, Dubuque; Mrs. Anna L. Edwards, Wyoming; all near relatives of the deceased.
