15 June 1944 - The Anamosa Journal

CENTER JUNCTION--Mrs. Ernest Blohm, Center Junction, received word Tuesday afternoon that her husband, Technician Fifth Grade Ernest Blohm, 25, had been killed in action in Italy.

She received a telegram the preceding Monday that he was missing in action in the Italian area since May 21. Technician Blohm served with an armored force tank battalion.

He was inducted into the service April 5, 1942, and was sent overseas March 2, 1943. He served in the North Africa invasions, and at the Anzio beachhead.

He was married to Ruth Ann Serbousek, Center Junction, Dec. 16, 1942. Mrs. Blohm is employed in Davenport. Surviving him besides his wife is his father, Fred Blohm, a sister, Mrs. Norman Martens, Anamosa; and a brother, Marvin, in the armed forces.

He is the first serviceman from the Center Junction community reported killed while in action.

He is the tenth from Jones county reported killed while in the service.

Memorial service for Ernest Blohm, Technician fifth grade, killed in action in Italy, will be held at the Presbyterian church in Center Junction at 2:30 p.m. next Sunday.

Blohm was reported missing in action May 21, and reported killed May 24. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Blohm, Castle Grove township.

He entered the service April 5, 1942. He took part in the African invasion and on the Anzio beachhead.

Dec. 16, 1942, while on furlough, he was married to Ruth Ann Serbousek, Center Junction. His brother, Marvin B. Blohm, serves with the 50th engineer corps in the Pacific area.

Surviving him are his wife, his parents, one brother, Marvin, and one sister, Mrs. Norman Martin, Anamosa.
