23 January 1941 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Carl B. Husman, 49, Morley, who died of acute peritonitis last Thursday at Mercy hospital, was held with an American Legion honor guard last Sunday afternoon at St. Paul's American Lutheran church, Anamosa. Rev. H. L. Buesing officiated.

Mr. Husman, a farmer, has been living in Jones county all his life. He was born in Cass township on Oct. 2, 1891. He was married on Jan. 20, 1921 to Elizabeth Ricklefs. To this union three children were born, Earl, Edna and Pauline. The latter two preceded their father in death at the ages of 11 and eight years.

He was the original organizer of St. Paul's congregation in Anamosa, a member of the church council, and just recently was elected trustee.

Mr. Husman was a World War veteran after enlisting July 25, 1917 and was overseas the same year until fall of 1918. He had been a member of the American Legion for 20 years.

Survivors are his wife, one son, Earl, his aged mother, Mrs. Thalka Husman, three brothers, John, Castle Grove; Frank, Center Junction; and Henry, Monticello; six sisters, Mrs. Eilert Huls, Mrs. George Hansen, Manchester; Mrs. Henry Balster, Scotch Grove; Mrs. Herman Cordes, Mrs. William G. Zimmerman, Anamosa; and Mrs. Gerd Bartels, Monticello.

Casket bearers were William Hanken, Alva Barber, Frank Siebels, William Martin, Harold Porter and Jack Husman.

Honor guards were Charles A. Rahn, William Shugart, Leigh Pearson, Siebelt Siebels, Roscoe Easterly and George Siebels.

Burial took place at Riverside cemetery. Smykil Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
