MARTELLE--Argus D. McConaughy, 37, died Sunday, Sept. 10, at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, following a week's illness.

He was born in Des Moines, Ia., June 2,1907, son of Will and Jennie Madison McConaughy.

When his mother died, Argus and his brother, Merle, came to Martelle, to make their home with their grandmother McConaughy and remained there until her death, which occurred when he was 10 years old.

His father having passed away the year previous Argus made his home with Herbin S. and Jennie Armstrong McConaughy until his marriage to Maxine Jayne in 1933.

Argus graduated from the Martelle high school in 1926 and attended Iowa State college at Ames for two years. He was a member of the Christian church and also a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge at Martelle. He has been the faithful mail carrier out of Martelle for the last five years.

Surviving are his wife and son, Bobby, 11, an older sister, Mrs. Anette Dawson, Detroit, Mich., and a brother, Merle, of Mount Vernon, a foster-sister, Mrs. Mae Svier and several nieces and nephews.
