George R. Smith, 72, Anamosa, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 14, at Mercy hospital, Anamosa.

Masonic services will be held Tuesday, June 16, at 7:30 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 17, at 1:30 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home. Rev. J. Ellis Webb will conduct the service. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Monticello.

He was born Aug. 31, 1891, son of John Smith and Mary Welch Smith, Wayne, Nebr. He was married Oct. 30, 1912, to Ruth Strukhoff. He had lived his married life in the Monticello and Anamosa vicinities.

He worked as a section foreman for the Milwaukee railroad for 43 years before his retirement. He was a member of Julian lodge No. 551 A.F.A.M., Farley.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; one daughter, Estella, Mrs. Kenneth Keating, Anamosa; two sons, George J. Smith, Langworthy, and John Smith, Monticello.

Other survivors include a brother, Tom Smith, Omaha, Nebr., two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Murray and Mrs. Loretta McCullough, both of Omaha; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters.
