Funeral service for John L. Renken, 77, was held last Monday at the Wayne Lutheran church. He died at his home in the Wayne community last Friday following a long illness of heart disease. Burial was at Wayne Zion cemetery. Pallbearers were Adolph Dierks, Henry J. Zimmerman, Henry Ulferts, Folkert Melchers, Rolland Broneman and John D. Poppe.

He was born Feb. 27, 1867, at Horsten, county of Wittmund, East Friesland, Germany. He was confirmed at the age of 14 in Wittmund. He came to the United States when 19 years old, and arrived in the fall of 1888 at Roanoke, Ill., where he worked on the farm for the Eilert Harms family.

March 6, 1912, he was married to Teithe Margaretha Eden, by Rev. W. H. Schultz.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, Lewis, in the southwest Pacific with the U.S. Navy, Ede, at home, and daughter Emma, at home, and other relatives.
