ONSLOW--Funeral service was held for Leon James Carpenter, 65, who died Tuesday, May 9 at the University hospital, Iowa City, after a short illness. He was taken to Iowa City April 27.

Mr. Carpenter was born near Onslow and had always made it his home. Surviving are his mother, Hannah Carpenter, 87, his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Ruth McCalmant and Mrs. Sybil Shady, both of Wyoming, Mrs. Wilma Heister and Mrs. Donna Lang, Onslow, and one son, Pvt. James Carpenter, in England; also two step-children, George T. Edwards, Onslow and Mrs. Beulah Myers, Wyoming. Service was held on Thursday afternoon at the Presbyterian church, Rev. Schrader officiating. Mrs. Wilson Briggs sang, accompanied by Mrs. Leslie Babcock.

Pallbearers were Ernest Horton, Gerd Dirks, Harry Moore, Will Lynch, Fred Martins and Lawrence Duffy. Burial was at Frozen Hill cemetery, north of Onslow.
