Funeral services for Alvin Ray Thumma, 74, were held Jan. 1 at the Hayden funeral home in Olin, with the Rev. Robert G. Hones officiating. Burial was in the Olin cemetery. Pallbearers were Byron Darrow, Paul Meyer, Carl Rohwedder, Ralph Milder, Floyd Guhl and Richard Grafft. Mrs. Galen Alexander was organist and Richard Frazier was vocalist.
Mr. Thumma died Dec. 29 in an Olin nursing home.
The son of David and Julia Thumma, he was born in Cumberland county, Penn. May 7, 1891 and attended school in Pennsylvania. He came to Marion when he was 23 and spent most of the remainder of his life farming 3 miles west of Olin. He was baptized in the Methodist church.
He was married to Valentine Effe Wells at Marion, April 7, 1915.
He is survived by his wife, 3 daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Geraldine) Boots, and Mrs. Lewis (Mildred) Tarbox, both of Olin; Mrs. Glen (Stella) Rife, Tipton; 2 sons, Harold A. and Lyle E., both of Anamosa, 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Maynard, Kingston, Penn. and Elmer, Mechanicsburg, Penn.; and 6 sisters, Mrs. William Sahank, West Fairview, Penn.; Mrs. Jacob Kutz, Mechanicsburg, Penn.; Mrs. John Hemperly, Fowlmouth, Penn.; Mrs. Ford Caffman, Stelton, Penn.; Mrs. White Shaub, Harrisburg, Penn. and Mrs. Calvin Richner, Everson, Wash.
