CLARK

Nathan Clark, one of the pioneers of Jones County, dropped dead in his blacksmith shop at Center Junction, Iowa Sept. 4, 1893. The cause was heart disease. It was quite a shock to the community. From his strong and healthful appearance but few outside of his family suspected there was any danger of his demise for years to come. It seems that he had heart trouble for quite a while before his death and had received several premonitions for a few weeks prior to his being taken off.

Mr. Clark was born in Mercer County, PA May 2, 1828. He was married to Miss Mary Kent Feb. 14, 1849 and moved to Jones County, Iowa in 1863, where he continued to reside till the day of his death. His wife and seven children survive him. Five of the children and two sons-in-law were present at the funeral, viz: Mr. and Mrs. Manes, of Blanchard: Mr. George Clark, of Audubon: Mrs. Reed, of Manilla: Mr. and Mrs. Hartman, of Amber: Miss Emma, the only child who still remained at home. Mrs. Alexander Felton, of Indianapolis, Ind. and Mrs. Bentley, of Rockport, Mo. were unable to be present. The funeral services were held at the Center Junction M.E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. A.W. Smith, assisted by Dr. Isbell. The attendance was quite large. The remains were interred in the Scotch Grove cemetery.

Mr. Clark was an honest, upright man, a kind father and devoted husband. He died a member of the M.E. church.
