27 April 1955 - The Anamosa Journal

E. S. Stone, pioneer Anamosa merchant, and operator of Stone's Jewelry store here for many years, died at his home early Thursday morning following a long illness. He is survived by his wife and one daughter.

Body is at the Smykil funeral home pending funeral arrangements for the service.

4 May 1944 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for E. S. Stone, 74, who died last Thursday at his home in Anamosa, was held at the Smykil home for funerals at 3 p.m. last Saturday. Rev. H. E. Dalrymple, pastor of the Congregational church conducted the service. Burial was at Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers were Peter Robertson, Dr. L. W. Kellogg, Dr. C. A. Reeves, Clifford Crow, Harold Yount and Tony Miller.

Edward S. Stone had operated a jewelry and watch business in Anamosa since 1902. He was born at Garden Plain, Ill., June 11, 1869, son of Elizah and Esther Cook Stone. At the age of 14 he moved with his parents to Morrison, Ill., where he attended high school. He came to Anamosa in 1902.

In 1905 he was married to Ethel Reed. To this union was born two children, one of whom died in infancy.

Mr. Stone was an active member of the Congregational church, and a deacon for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge.

He was forced to retire from active work over a year ago because of ill health.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Robert E. Carber, Copperhill, Tenn., two sisters, Mrs. Edda Ladd, Morrison, Ill., and Mrs. E. M. Spangler, Ames, Iowa.
