OLIN--Funeral service for Dwight L. Smith,88, Jones county pioneer, was held at the Campbell funeral home, Olin, Tuesday afternoon. Rev. W. T. Boston, United Brethren pastor, officiated. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. Mrs. Joe Clay and Mrs. Leon Stivers sang at the service, and was accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Harry Stuart.

Pallbearers were Herman Hotz, Frank Sarby, Ralph Coppess, Merle Hawley, Charles Kline and Ezra Meyers.

Dwight Lyman, son of Cyrus H. and Mary Barton Smith, was born at Mecca, Ohio, Dec. 2, 1855, and died at the home of his daughter, Laura Byrd, Feb. 11, following a short illness. He came to Iowa in 1874, and five years later moved to the farm near Olin where he lived until his death, a period of 65 years.

He married Emma Cave, Oxford Mills, Dec. 23, 1890. There were three children, two of whom survive, Mrs. Laura Byrd and Dee L., both of Olin. A daughter, Mary, died in infancy. Also surviving is one brother, Newell R., Yates Center, Kan.; one sister, Mrs. Clara Shankland, Olin, and one grandson, Pvt. Ivan H. Byrd, Fort Jackson, S. C. Mrs. Smith died in May, 1907.
