Mrs. Henry M. Carpenter, 83, died Monday night at John McDonald hospital, Monticello, where she was taken six weeks ago after fracturing her hip in a fall.

She was born July 9, 1860, in Monticello, the daughter of Sewell and Melinda Nesbitt Farwell. She was a graduate of the Monticello high school and the Iowa State Teachers College.

She was married Sept. 11, 1883, to H. M. Carpenter, who died Oct. 13, 1933. He was a former president of the Monticello State bank. Mrs. Carpenter was a charter member of the Friday club in Monticello.

Surviving are two sons, Halstead M. Carpenter, Monticello and Dr. Millington Carpenter, Iowa City; a sister, Mrs. W. S. A. Smith of Swarthmore, Iowa.

Service was held this Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Goettsch funeral home, Monticello. Rev. Frederick Putnam, pastor of Trinity Episcopal church, Iowa City, officiated and burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
