13 February 1964 - The Anamosa Eureka

Lawrence Wayne Goss, 62, Anamosa, died Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Oakdale sanatarium following a lingering illness. Death was due to a heart condition. He had been a patient at Oakdale for the last 15 months.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. J. Ellis Webb conducted the service. Burial was in the Norwich cemetery near Martelle.

Pallbearers included Vernon Lange, Matthew Boots, James Kraus, sr., Fred Stoffers, Carles Payne and William Fischer.

He was born Jan. 2, 1902, son of Lawrence E. Goss and Myrtle M. Durkee Goss, rural Independence. He attended Buchanan county schools and Upper Iowa university, Fayette.

He was married Jan. 3, 1931 to Blanche Wilson, Independence. Couple made their home in the Independence area before moving to Anamosa in 1943.

He worked as a guard at the Men's reformatory for 14 years before ill health forced him to retire in November, 1962.

He was a member of the Methodist church, Anamosa, and Independent Order of Odd Follows lodge No. 40, Anamosa.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche; one son, Larry Jay Goss, Anamosa; two daughters, Phyllis, Mrs. Roy Hackett, Des Moines, and Barbara, Mrs. Frank Nelson, Anamosa; and two grandchildren, Dana D. Hackett, Des Moines and Jeffrey Jay Goss, Anamosa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
