OLIN--Mrs. Charles E. Walston, 80, who had been an invalid for four years, died Saturday, Jan. 16, at the home of her son, Ward Walston, two miles west of Manchester.

On Jan. 16, 1939, Mrs. Walston fell and fractured her hip and since then had been an invalid.

Funeral service was held at the Gill Funeral home Monday afternoon, with Rev. Clair J. Brown in charge. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.

Mary Ann Merritt was born at Olin, Feb. 6, 1862, and grew to womanhood there. She received her early education in the public school and Olin high school, and later attended Cornell college at Mount Vernon. She prepared herself for the profession of teaching, and taught school for some time.

She was married To Charles E. Walston at Olin, Jan. 18, 1884. Mr. and Mrs. Walston moved to Delaware county in the spring of 1915 and had lived on a farm in Coffin's Grove township since Mr. Walston died Nov. 18, 1941.

Surviving Mrs. Walston are a son, Ward, at whose home she resided and who administered to the invalid mother during four years of illness; one daughter, Mrs. C. L. Shaffer, Crystal Lake, Ill.; five grandchildren; three brothers, J. I. Merritt, Cedar Rapids, W. D. Merritt, Olin; and Carl Merritt, Alamo, Texas. She was preceded in death by one son, Lee, at the age of three years; and one daughter, Mrs. Harry C. Thorpe, and by several brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Walston was a member of the Methodist church for many years and during her active years work of the societies of the church and the Des Moines orphanage.
