WYOMING--Funeral service for Nelson Reade, 97, Civil war veteran was held in the Harrington Funeral home in Wyoming Sunday afternoon. Rev. R. C. Scott was in charge.

Mr. Reade was born in Indiana November 2, 1842, and came to Iowa with his parents in 1852. They located near the northwest corner of Jones county, not far from Canton. Mr. Reade received his early education in a typical log schoolhouse.

When the Civil war broke out he enlisted in Company K, 24th Iowa regiment, which was formed in Wyoming. He drilled with the company for three months but was then rejected because of defective sight in his left eye. However, he was with the Home Guards for the remainder of the war.

He farmed for a time, after which he moved to Wyoming and engaged in the implement business. For several years he served as a member of the town council. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for over 50 years and attended the Methodist church until recently.

Since the death of his wife in 1907 he made his home with his four children, who survive. They are: Mrs. Edith Marshall and Mrs. Jessie Arnold, both of Wyoming, Clarence A. Reade, Onslow, and Mrs. Bessie Dawes, Center Junction. There are 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
