Last rites for James Crawford Ray, 88, who died Saturday at his home after an illness of two and a half weeks, were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Loder Funeral home.

Rev. J. K. Delahooke, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiated and burial was in Riverside cemetery.

Casketbearers included Virgil Van Kirk, John Joslin, Leslie Frankfurt, Frank Moss, Ray Kirkpatrick and Dave Grassfield.

Mr. Ray was born Jan. 14, 1854, in Jackson county and was united in marriage to Kandie Sinkey. One son, George, was born to this union. Mrs. Ray died on Feb. 22, 1880.

On April 14, 1888, Mr. Ray was married to Frances Hovey. She preceded him in death on June 22, 1937, but 10 of their 11 children survive.

Mr. Ray lived his entire life in Jackson and Jones counties where he engaged in farming. He was a member of the Methodist church and at one time was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge.

He is survived by his children, George, Maquoketa; Frank, William and Mrs. Stanley Zimmerman, Anamosa; Robert, Monticello; Vernon and Mrs. Howard Dragoo, Martelle; Millard, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Ella Northcutt, San Antonio, Texas; Mrs. Martha Swartz, Germantown, Md.; and Mrs. Lyle Kramer, Rock Island, Ill. Seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.
