Wencly Marek, 74, Stone City, died Saturday, Dec. 30, at Stone City, following a lingering illness.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's church, Stone City. Rev. Cyril Engler, officiated at the services. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery, Prairieburg. McNamara Funeral home, Anamosa, was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers included Harry Flaherty, Leo Machart, Henry Yanda, Lou Yanda, Tom Stimpson and Ray Machart.
He was born Sept. 19, 1887, son of John Marek and Catherine Lawrence Marek, Prairieburg. He was married to Alvina Bakula, North Buena Vista, Sept. 29, 1914. Couple lived on a farm in Cass Center until 12 years ago when they moved to Stone City to make their home.
Survivors include his wife, Alvina; three daughters, Alvina, Mrs. Leonard Boos, Anamosa; Irene, Mrs. Hugh Ayers, Milwaukee, Wisc.; and Dorothy, Mrs. Leo Waggoner, Des Moines.
Others include three sons, Edward and Maynard, Cedar Rapids; and Dr. D. P. Marek, Maquoketa; 31 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Others included three sisters, Mrs. William Holub, Prairieburg; Mrs. Harm Schatz, DeWitt; Mrs. V. A. Holub, Monticello; and three brothers, Frank Marek, Monticello; Albert Marek, Coggon; and Henry Marek, Monticello.
