12 October 1961 - The Anamosa Eureka

WYOMING--Ben McQuire, 88, Wyoming, died Friday, Oct. 6, at the home of his son, Owen, near Center Junction, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Oct. 9, at the Wyoming United Presbyterian church. Rev. Wayne Norris officiated at the service. Interment was in the Wyoming cemetery.

Pallbearers included Ed Kleineck, Joseph Cathey, Henry Fishwild, Howard Jamison, John M. Petersen and Albert Mott.

Walter Sullivan was soloist. Mrs. Walter Sullivan was organist.

He was born Dec. 29, 1872, son of Willis and Jane Criswell McQuire, in Ohio. As a youth he left Ohio and came to Iowa. Later he spent some time in Colorado before making Jones county Iowa his permanent residence.

He was married Feb. 21, 1900, to Effie Ireland. They made their home on farms in the Wyoming area until 1927 when they moved to Wyoming. He was a member of the Wyoming Presbyterian church.

Survivors include his four children, Meta, Mrs. Anton, Baguss, Wyoming; Owen, Center Junction; Orla, DeWitt, Mich.; and Velda, Mrs. Freddie Luckstead, Wyoming.

Other survivors include a twin brother, Byron, Wyoming; and a sister in Ohio; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife three weeks ago; his parents and two brothers.
