Joseph Arthur Cathey, 58, passed away at his home in Wyoming, Iowa on Saturday, April 26, 1980.

He was born September 30, 1921 in Martinsburg, Iowa, the youngest child of Joseph C. and Mary Hannah Lynch Cathey. He graduated from the Martinsburg High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls for one year before volunteering for service in the United States Air Force. He was an Aerial Gunnery Instructor during most of his military career.

He and Martha Jane Dick were united in marriage on November 7, 1943. They spent all their married life in Wyoming where they farmed, except for the time he was in the service.

Mr. Cathey was very active in community affairs. He was a member of the Wyoming Methodist Church, the Keystone Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. He served for a number of years on the Board of Education of the Wyoming and Midland School District. He also served on the Wyoming Mutual Telephone Company Board. For the past several years he has acted as president of the Midland Volunteer Ambulance Service. He worked for the State Department of Health as Co-Ordinator and Examiner for the Eastern Iowa Emergency Medical Technicians Training Program.

He is survived by his wife, Jane, one daughter, Mrs. William Packard (Dicksy Jo) of Mountain Home, Arkansas; two sisters, Mrs. Conrad Bjorkman of Sonoma, California; and Mrs. Josephine Pabst of El Paso, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter and one brother.

Services were held on April 29, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hayden Funeral Home in Wyoming and burial was in the Wyoming Cemetery. Pastor Frederick Keil officiated. Pallbearers were John Wurst, Allen Willman, Dale Lineburg, Howard Peck, Robert Orris and Steven Brinkman.
