MARTELLE--Final rites for James L. Mitchell, 93, longtime resident of Jones county who died Friday morning at the Mercy hospital in Anamosa, were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church in Martelle.

Rev. Cecil R. Miller officiated, assisted by Rev. Claude Runner and burial was in the family lot in Norwich cemetery. Casketbearers were Harry Holcomb, C. K. Gordon, C. V. Newman, C. L. Murfield, G. J. Armstrong and A. L. Hoffman.

Mr. Mitchell was born Jan. 15, 1848, near Zanesville, Ohio, son of James and Mary Mitchell. In November, 1872, he was married to Arminda Onstott at Blue Rock, Ohio, and the couple moved to a farm south of Martelle. He has made his home in this vicinity since that time until his death.

He is survived by a son, Alvin, Martelle; two grandsons, Elmer and Harold Mitchell, LaPlata, Mo.; three granddaughters, Mrs. Virgil Johnson, Davenport; Gayle and Jeanne Mitchell, both Martelle, and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Funeral service was in charge of Loder Funeral home.
