11 April 1963 - The Anamosa Eureka

OLIN--Owen Ward Mitchell, 86, Olin, died Thursday, April 4, at the home of his daughter, east of Hale, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m., at the Hayden Funeral home, Olin. Rev. Lloyd Dutro, pastor of the Olin E.U.B. church, conducted the service. Interment was in the Olin cemetery.

Pallbearers included Gerald Lyon, Gilbert Jones, Raymond James, J. H. Ballou, Carl Fedderson and Ernest Peck.

Nellie Stivers was soloist. Dorothy Alexander was pianist.

He was born May 14, 1876, son of Lewis and Margaret Ireland Mitchell, Seward, Nebr. He came to the Olin vicinity in his youth and with the exception of some time spent in California had made his home in the Olin area since that time.

He worked as a carpenter most of his adult life. March 11, 1902, he was married to Carrie Van at Olin.

Survivors include a son, Lester, Anaheim, Calif.; a daughter, Reva, Mrs. Leonard White, Wyoming; two grandchildren, Sharon White Mayberry, Anamosa and Gary White, Cedar Falls; one sister, Belle, Mrs. Alvin Winchip, Center Junction; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jan. 1, 1933; one son, Leonard; three brothers, Clarence and Frank Mitchell, and a brother who died in infancy; and his parents.
