Final rites for James P. Dougherty, 70, who died July 23 at Mercy hospital after a lingering illness, were held Friday, July 25, at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic church.

Rev. P. J. Behan officiated and burial was in Holy Cross cemetery.

Casketbearers were Neal Conway, Tom Hanlon, Phil B. Daly, John Hayes, Jack Neville and Bernard J. Keating, Onslow.

Mr. Dougherty was born July 9, 1871, on a farm north of Anamosa, son of John and Anna Hayes Dougherty. His early days were spent on the family homestead in Linn county but the major portion of his life was spent in Jones county where he engaged in farming and dealt in livestock.

He retired from farming in 1932 and was employed for several years as a guard at Men's state reformatory.

He was married in April, 1900, to Mary Foarde who survives him with one daughter, Mrs. C. W. Sindelar, Cedar Rapids; four sons, Gerald F., Chicago, James F., Cedar Rapids, R. D., Los Angeles, Calif., and Neal, at home; two brothers, Barney, Ryan and Frank K., Waterloo; four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Burke, Dubuque, Mrs. Mary Cavanaugh, Canada, Mrs. J. L. Green, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. G. F. Dearborn, Stone City; three grandchildren, Donald, Dolores and Franklin Sindelar.

Out-of-town friends and relatives who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Margaret Burke and Miss Ann Burke, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. James Burke, Cascade; Mr. and Mrs. F. K. Doherty, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Green, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Wernimont, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Koppenhaver, all Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Verne Koppenhaver, Wilton Junction; Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Keating and Mrs. Loretta English, Onslow; Mrs. Ida Flannagan, Cascade; J. J. Foarde, Mrs. Nora White, Miss Alice Foarde and Miss Agnes Foarde, all of Des Moines.
