13 July 1961 - The Anamosa Eureka

William M. English, 53, Anamosa, died Wednesday, July 12, at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids, following an illness since February.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 15, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic church, Anamosa. Rev. J. A. McMahon will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery, Anamosa.

Pallbearers will be Flavel DeLancey, Clifford Soper, Clifford Strawman, William McNamara, Gerald Kehoe and Louis Gilbert.

He was born Sept. 23, 1907, son of Matthew English and Eleanor Nelson English, Delaware county. He was married Dec. 2, 1933, to Helen Porter, Anamosa, at Anamosa. Couple has lived on a farm east of Anamosa for the last 16 years.

He graduated from the Ryan high school and attended St. Birchman's school, Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; one son, William J., Anamosa; two daughters, Janice, at home and Kathryn, Mount Vernon; his mother, Mrs. Eleanor English, Cedar Rapids.

Other survivors include one brother, Leo, Cedar Rapids; four sisters, Mrs. William Delay, Monticello; Mrs. Howard Richman, Ryan; Mrs. William Kenney and Mrs. Eleanor Smith, both of Cedar Rapids; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Mary.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1934.
