MARTELLE--Samuel Harland Ellison, 76, Martelle, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at a Cedar Rapids hospital where he had been a patient since the day before.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Austin Reynolds, of the Martelle Christian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Pallbearers include Myron Brewer, Arlen Holcomb, Lawrence Holcomb, Glenn May, Merle Murfield and Charles Holcomb.

He was born Nov. 3, 1884, son of James Ellison and Eva Newman Ellison, near Martelle. He was married to Flora McCarn, Anamosa, on Nov. 27, 1920, at Chicago, Ill.

He was engaged in farming on the Ellison farm until 1940 when they moved to Martelle. He was a member of the Martelle Christian church.

Survivors include his wife, Flora; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Gotsch, Martelle; one niece, Dr. Ruth Gotsch, Watsonville, Calif.; one nephew, James E. Gotsch, Edinburg, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Marion Horn, Harrison, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
