MORLEY--James Robert Bickerstaff, 89, Morley, died Thursday, July 76, at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 9, at 2 p.m., at the Campbell Funeral home, Olin. Rev. Lloyd Dutro, pastor of the Morley E.U.B. church, officiated. Interment was in the Green cemetery.

Pallbearers included Don Nicoll, Artie Achenbach, Francis Smith, Mervin Switzer, Orville Russell and John Willison.

He was born Nov. 7, 1870, son of Nathan and Aurelia Reed Bickerstaff, near Morley. He grew to manhood in the Morley vicinity, attending the rural school near there. He also attended Cornell college, Mount Vernon, for a brief period.

Jan. 24, 1900, he was united in marriage to Jennie M. Smith, Anamosa. Couple farmed north of Morley until 1913 at which time they moved into Morley where they continued to make their home.

After moving to Morley, they operated the Morley store until 1929. In 1932 they purchased the Morley café which they continued to operate for nearly 13 years. For the last several years they had been retired.

Survivors include his wife, Jennie; one daughter, Muriel Lane, Cedar Rapids; one son, Harlan Bickerstaff, Morley; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Ruth Bickerstaff in 1922; his parents, two sisters and one brother.
