16 June 1960 - The Anamosa Eureka

WYOMING--Fred W. Westphal, 83, Wyoming, died Thursday, June 9, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 12, at 2 p.m., at the Zion American Lutheran church, Wyoming. Rev. Robert Ahrens officiated. Interment was in the Wyoming cemetery.

Pallbearers were Harold Westphal, Edwin Westphal, Herbert Westphal, Lloyd Westphal, Glen Westphal, Wayne Westphal.

Mrs. Lafayette Bahnsen was organist, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lacock sang.

Mr. Westphal was born Oct. 23, 1876, son of Carl and Sophia Rehus Westphal, in Jackson county. He was baptized and confirmed at Lost Nation.

Feb. 26, 1902, he was united in marriage to Anna Ahrendsen, at Olin. Four children were born to this union. He farmed in Jones county, in the Wyoming area until 1932, when he retired to the family home in Wyoming.

He had made his home with his son and daughter-in-law for the last 7 1/2 years. He was a member of the Zion American Lutheran church since its early years, and had served on the church council during the early history of the church.

Survivors include two daughters and one son: Vera, Mrs. Malvin Martensen, Wyoming; Erma, Mrs. Sydney Holden, Chatham, N.J.; Clare Westphal, Wyoming.

Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Art Manwiller, Ames, two brothers, Henry Westphal and John Westphal, Wyoming; six grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1954; an infant daughter and two brothers.
